What the New Moon Means

Astrologically, the New Moon marks the start of a fresh lunar month — sun and moon aligned, the sky at its darkest. Symbolically, it's less about "nothing happening" and more about everything being possible, unformed, and unclaimed. It's the ideal window for setting an intention that hasn't yet been shaped by outside opinion.

A Simple New Moon Tarot Ritual

When: The night of the New Moon, or within 24 hours after.
What you need: Your deck, a candle, paper and pen, a quiet room.

1. Dim the lights. Light a candle. Take a few slow breaths until your mind settles.
2. Shuffle your deck while thinking of one area of life you want to begin fresh in.
3. Draw three cards in a row: Seed (what wants to begin), Shadow (what might resist it), Support (what will help it grow).
4. Write your intention as a single sentence, present tense: "I am beginning …"
5. Fold the paper and place it under your candle or somewhere you'll see it at the next Full Moon.
