We may consider Nature as a certain trigger to a mystical experience, discrete in its form, as well as a part of a continuous entity that shows up to a perceived. Across the history there are numerous records of mystical experiences written by monks and hermits that took place as a result of the contemplation of a lake, mountain or tree. These moments manifest themselves through the states of euphoria and exaltation. Nature somehow works on certain individuals producing a resonance of some mental capacities causing the shift of perspective on boundaries and time itself.
We moved for 300 km out of the cities into the depths of Savran' forest, which is a Ukrainian state reserve with an area of 8397 ha. In total, 40 species of trees and shrubs, more than 400 herbaceous plants grow in it. Rock oak, of scientific value, grows in some areas. There are also ordinary oaks, which are 100, 300, 500 years old. With the help of traditional film photography and manual development we would like to convey the energy of the forest, its vibration and vitality into the cards.
It is appropriate to finish with the words of Indian mystic Krishnamurti: "Have you noticed, that when you enter a forest, for the first time there is a strange atmosphere, as if nature, the trees, do not want you to enter. You hesitate, and say 'It's alright,' and walk in quietly. The second day the resistance is less. And the third day it is gone."
The idea of this deck was born during our cooperation with the talented artist David Grigoryan. In early October, we embarked on an expedition into the forest, having only a camera and an irresistible desire to create something perfect. Adapting the knowledge of Tarot, Dasha Zeleno carefully organized the composition of each card in accord with her perception. As a result, we were able to create all the minor arcana in the first day (being extremely exhausted, though). Our second part of an expedition started two weeks after. This time we investigated the forest even more thorough using tools like sticks, lenses, and compasses to discover elements for the major arcana. We firmly decided not to use digital technology, so we had only one chance to capture the energy of the arcana on film, as well as not to use any programs for image processing afterward, but only developing and printing manually. All the photos that you see were not changed or edited.

We would like to share with you some thoughts regarding our dreams, values and shed light on the direction we are evolving. It is evident that world production in the field of Tarot these days is leaning towards soulless copying and printing for the mass market, cards are losing not only their uniqueness but an essential internal mystery as well. So our main intent was to preserve and spread further this fragile magic spirit that about to dissolve.
Here are the 3 basic aspects we rely on :
1. We want our decks to be appropriate for the tarot reading in itself, not to be just a useless mixture of images randomly intertwining with symbols lacking of any meaning.
2. Behind any deck should be a strong concept with an elaborate symbolism.
3. We want to move towards historical technologies of the past in order to avoid modern copying and printing industry trends with its spiritual emptiness . Thus, we are willing to maximize the usage of natural materials and ingredients, handcrafts, so one can perceive the very soul of our creations rather than cold-blooded calculation of a merchant.
Savran Forest Tarot will consist of 78 unique photographs taken on film and developed manually. We hope that you will value this deck, as we do, and decide to support our project, helping us make something special for you!
